Caraga Health Research and Development Consortium (CHRDC), Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU), and Department of Health Center for Health Development- Caraga (DOH CHD- Caraga) held the very first Nursing Research Congress in the region last February 26, 2020 at CBE Functional Hall, FSUU, Butuan City with the theme “Transformation Towards a Sustainable Caraga thru Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing”.
The activity aimed to enrich the research culture among nurses in Caraga; them being the primary providers of health care.
Almost 200 nursing students, clinical instructors, and nursing professionals from Father Saturnino Urios University, Butuan Doctors’ College, Surigao Education Center and Caraga Regional Hospital gathered for the one-day event.
The series of research paper presentations were one of the congress’ highlights. Eight (8) student and professional nurses from FSUU and SEC shared the outputs and relevance of their health-related studies.
The participants also grasped learning from the different plenary talks. Dr. Gerna M. Manatad, OIC- Chief Admin Officer of DOH CHD- Caraga’s Mgt. Services Support Division, presented the Regional Unified Health Research Agenda (RUHRA) 2017-2022, expounding the fourteen (14) health priorities in Caraga.
Ms. Mary Grace T. Pulido, Science Research Specialist II of DOST- Caraga, introduced CHRDC and its objectives, the Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) and the Health Research and Development Information Network+ (HERDIN+), emphasizing its great use in the development of a study’s related literature.
Dr. Joel Arturo S. De Jesus, Medical Specialist IV of PhilHealth- Caraga, explained in detail the universal principles of health research that should be considered in doing researches involving human participants. Mr. Tarcisio B. Candog, Dean of FSUU’s Nursing Program, supplemented the discussion, focusing on ethical concerns/ issues in the nursing profession.
Mr. Dinnes Karl N. Garcia, Nurse III of DOH CHD- Caraga, presented the concepts of public health system and health promotion. He suggested researchable topics in the areas of public health as well.
The congress was also graced by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research of FSUU, Rev. Fr. Randy Jasper C. Odchigue, and the Assistant Regional Director of DOH CHD- Caraga, Dr. Rodolfo Antonio M. Albornoz.
